Path4Med presented at the Agrifood Forum 2024 in Lithuania: innovation and Sustainability for the Future of Agri-food
30 November 2024From April 27 to May 2, 2025, the Path4Med team took part in the General Assembly of the European Geosciences Union (EGU), one of the most prominent international scientific events, held at the Austria Center Vienna. With over 18,000 participants from around the globe, EGU 2025 provided a key platform to exchange knowledge and showcase solutions to pressing global environmental challenges.
During the event, representatives from the Agricultural University of Athens and Universidad Pública de Navarra (UPNA) presented the Path4Med project, outlining the innovative strategies being applied to combat water and soil pollution in Mediterranean agro-hydrological systems. The project presentation (EGU25-11873) generated significant interest, particularly for its integrated approach that combines cutting-edge technologies with active stakeholder engagement to support more sustainable and resilient agriculture.
Path4Med aims to reduce pollution in Mediterranean agro-hydroelectric systems by addressing challenges such as the fragmented management of agriculture and water resources, lack of harmonized soil data, inefficient resource use, and ineffective policies. To tackle these issues, the project employs advanced technologies (EO, eDNA, IoT, AI), integrated solutions (smart irrigation, biochar, nature-based solutions), techno-economic modeling, and large-scale pilot sites designed for replication across Europe.
Participation in EGU 2025 offered Path4Med a valuable opportunity to engage with other European projects, facilitating the exchange of ideas, exploration of synergies, and the initiation of new scientific collaborations.
During the conference, Path4Med also announced its upcoming open call, scheduled for for next fall, which will invite new stakeholders to replicate and adapt the project’s solutions in other European contexts. More details will be shared in the coming months.
The experience at EGU 2025 confirmed the growing interest and relevance of the Path4Med mission, further strengthening the project’s commitment to actively contributing to the ecological transition of Mediterranean agro-hydrological systems.
Stay tuned for more updates!
