Dnipro Basin (NUBIP, WU)

Demonstration Site – Ukraine (Dnipro River)

Seasonal monitoring for a comprehensive understanding of water quality
The demonstration site along the Dnipro River, one of Eastern Europe’s main waterways, is the focus of intensive environmental monitoring aimed at understanding seasonal variations in water quality.

Activities carried out:
Four seasonal sampling campaigns were completed during the project:

  • Summer: August 3–5, 2024
  • Autumn: October 18–20, 2024
  • Winter: February 14–16, 2025
  • Spring: April 11–13, 2025

These campaigns provided essential data for analyzing the hydrological and chemical dynamics of the river throughout the year.

Scientific dissemination:
Preliminary results from the demonstration site have already been presented at international scientific forums, including:

  • The EGU 2025 Conference (European Geosciences Union), April 30, 2025
  • The XI International Conference “Ecology – Philosophy of Human Existence,” at the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine, April 23, 2025

Objectives:

  • Monitor and understand seasonal fluctuations in the Dnipro’s water quality
  • Contribute to the integrated assessment of the river’s ecological status under increasing environmental pressure
  • Promote the international exchange of scientific knowledge to support data-driven environmental policies.
