Water, soil and climate: Path4Med’s contribution to the European bioeconomy dialogue
10 March 2026From 30 March to 1 April 2026, the Path4Med project hosted its Modelling Workshop at Wageningen University & Research, bringing together over 30 researchers from 10 countries and more than 13 European institutions. The event provided a valuable opportunity for exchange and collaboration on key topics such as water quality, agriculture, and sustainability.
Over the three days, participants worked with models operating at different scales — from field level (DAISY, AquaCrop-OSPy), to catchment scale (SWAT), up to the large-scale MARINA model, which was also used to develop scenarios aimed at reducing nutrient pollution in the Ebro, Rhine, and Danube river basins.
The final day focused on strengthening synergies across projects and on the design of the integrated communication platform foreseen under Path4Med’s Work Package 6, with active contributions on target users, data needs, and formats.
Beyond the technical aspects, the workshop played a key role in strengthening the research community, fostering new collaborations, joint modelling activities, model intercomparison studies, the development of a shared data catalogue, and the creation of working groups to support zero-pollution goals.
The event was organised in collaboration with the Horizon Europe projects SeaCure, GreenHood, and NutriBudget, and coordinated by the Earth Systems and Global Change Group at Wageningen University & Research.
